Advancing Climate Resilience and Sustainable Agriculture through Research & Innovation
Dr. Fedhasa Benti Chalchissa was born in 1977 and grew up in the rural hamlet of Goda-Galan, located in the Midakegn District of the West Shoa Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia. He pursued his early education at Midakegn Elementary School (1984- 1988) and completed his secondary education at Gedo High School (1989–1991).
In 1992, he enrolled at Jimma Agricultural College, where he obtained a diploma in Plant Science in 1993. Continuing his academic journey, he earned a BSc degree in Crop Production from Ambo University in 2008, followed by an MSc degree in Environmental Science from the same institution in 2011. In 2018, he joined Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (JUCAVM) to pursue a PhD in Climate Change, Mitigation, and Adaptation, which he successfully completed in February 2023.
Fedhasa began his professional career in 1994 as a coffee agronomist at the Oromia Coffee and Tea Development Bureau, where he worked until 2001. From 2002 to 2004, he served as a coordinator for CARE Ethiopia in the West Hararge Zone. He then joined the ODA-Food Security Project in 2004, where he worked as a program director until 2013. In 2014, he transitioned to academia, joining Wollega University as an environmental researcher, where he continues his work in research and development.
Throughout his career, Fedhasa has contributed significantly to agricultural research, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability, focusing on coffee agronomy, food security, and climate change adaptation strategies.
